Alfonso R. “Al” Gaeta, Sr., 89 of Eastland, passed away Thursday, December 28, 2017 in Eastland. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Daugherty St. Church of Christ. Burial will follow in the Eastland City Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday, 6~8 p.m.
Al was born on March 6, 1928 in Eastland County to Nicholas Gaeta and Felipa (Ramon) Gaeta. He grew up in Eastland and was a member of the Daugherty St. Church of Christ. He served in the 1st Marine and later the 49thArmy for over 14 years, seeing combat in WWII. He was past Commander of the VFW Post in Eastland. He ran an ice plant for a time, worked for Fullen Motor Company, and was a “jack-of-all trades”. He was an avid pecan harvester and could tell you where the best pecan trees in Eastland County were. He was preceded in death by; 1 daughter, Carolyn Gaeta; and 3 sons, Kenneth Ray Gaeta, Richard D. Gaeta, and Nicholas James Gaeta.
Survivors include a son, Al Gaeta, Jr and wife Sharon; 6 grandchildren, Teresa Gaeta-Sneed and husband Kerry, Andrea Gaeta, John Martin Gaeta and wife Abby, Jessica Ann Gaeta, Kyle Gaeta and his mother Dianna Gaeta, and Jamie Herrell-Smith; 2 great-grandchildren, Autumn Dawn Frazier, and John Braden Gaeta; a sister, Erlinda Ortiz; a brother, Ruben Ramon Gaeta; several nieces and nephews; and daughter-in-law, Margie Gaeta.
