Alvis T. Ray, age 96, departed the bonds of this earth on Monday, March 4, 2013 to soar with the angels and be with God and the love of his life Alda. His life was one of faith and commitment to God, family and others. Alvis was born at Lake Victor in Burnet County, Texas on September 8, 1916 to Tom and Tennie Ray. He married Alda Schreiner on August 28, 1944 in Tucson, Arizona. He served in the United States Navy during WWII, and then moved to San Angelo, Texas after retiring from the civil service as an aviation metal smith. In April 2012 they moved to the Ranger Care Center in Ranger, Texas. He is survived by nieces, Gwen Miles, Nona Slaughter and husband Jimmie, Betty Joe Hechler and husband Jim and Clarice Rebsch; nephews, Ronny Rains and wife Betty, Donny Rains and wife Sharon and James Thomas Bryson, Jr. and wife Barbara and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife Alda of 68 years; parents Tom and Tennie Ray; brother George Ray; sisters, Katherine Bryant, Marie Bryson, Lorrine Dobbins and Mona Tatum. Friends and family are gathering at the Bakker Funeral Home in Eastland Thursday March 7, 2013 from 9:00 - 10:00 AM. Funeral services will be at 11:30 AM Thursday at the Pisgah Cemetery south of Cisco, under the direction of the Bakker Funeral Home in Eastland, Texas. The Schreiner family would like to thank the Ranger Care Center and Lighthouse Hospice for the loving care they gave to Alvis and Alda Ray.
