Amelia Govan

November 15, 1917 — November 15, 2018

Amelia Govan, 101, of Eastland, Texas gained her heavenly wings on her birthday on Thursday, November 15, 2018 in Eastland.

Visitation will be held at Edwards Funeral Home, 411 S. Mulberry St., Eastland, Texas on Friday, November 23rd from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, November 24th at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Danny Brown officiating. Burial ceremony will follow in Eastland City Cemetery.

Amelia was born in Elmo, Texas to Huey and Hattie Green on November 15, 1917 and was the oldest of five children. She moved to Eastland in 1932. She was later employed by Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Seaberry and the Frost Family for over 50 years.

Amelia was a faithful member of Little Flock Baptist Church, First Baptist Church at 710 North Seaman St, and several others. She was passionate about playing the piano, and she shared her love for music with all who would listen. Over the years she served as a musician in the church and in many places by volunteering her time to play regularly. She served in the church in many capacities, such as Sunday School Teacher and President of the Choir. She also served as the Youth Director on the West Texas District Association and Secretary of the Heroines of Jericho. She was honored with the title of Woman of the Year, but she would tell you that her greatest accomplishment was her children, Tommie J. Jones, Raydell Govan, Doris M. Morrow, Eligha Govan, and Patricia Parker. She often remarked about how proud she was of her children. Family was very important to Amelia, and she expressed her love of her family through both word and her actions. The love and faithfulness that she extended to her children and on to the next generations of her family will carry a deep and lasting impression for years to come. Her generous spirit and distinct laughter will be remembered always.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Eligha Govan, Sr., son Raydell Govan, sisters Freddie M. Crawford and Evelyn L. Wilson, brothers Clyde and Grady Rogers, and step-mother Ruby Ross Green. Amelia is survived by her loving children, Tommie J. Jones, Doris M. Morrow, Eligha Govan and wife Betty, Patricia Parker and wife Bertha of Raydell. She is also blessed with many loved ones to cherish her memory of 15 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 12 great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, and her long-time friend, Mrs. Ladell Randall.
