Barbara Helen Pitman Kinkade passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2013 in Waco.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Lake Ridge Healthy Living or Providence Hospice.
Barbara was born January 22, 1933 to Harrison and Ovia Pitman in Gordon, Texas. Barbara attended school in Gordon where she enjoyed competing in basketball and graduated in the class of 1950.
Upon graduating, Barbara moved to Fort Worth and worked for Bell Telephone Company. She met rodeo cowboy Kenneth Kinkade who was to become the love of her life, and they were married on September 18, 1954. The couple lived most of their life of 56 years together in Hurst, Texas. Barbara was a homemaker, mother and bookkeeper for Kenneth’s paint and drywall contracting business. After her children were grown, Barbara worked in the bookkeeping departments of Olivetti Corporation and White Swan until she retired in the early 90’s.
After retirement, the couple moved back to Gordon, where they rose early each morning to drink coffee together and share the sunrise from the kitchen window of their cabin at the foot of the hill. Barbara was a wonderful Christian woman who enjoyed her life in Gordon where she loved spending time with her sisters and eating weekly at New York Hill with her childhood friend, Sue. Barbara had a sweet spirit and always greeted everyone with her warm smile. The very light of her life were, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who loved to gather at the cabin with their Nana.
Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband: Kenneth; her parents: Harrison and Ovia; her brother: Thurman Pitman; and her sister: Betsy Alloggio.
Those left to cherish her memories are her sisters: Norlene Boggus and husband James of Gordon; Jan Newberry and husband Randy of Forney; her daughter: Brenda Smith and husband Larry of China Spring; her son: Jeff and wife Paula of Bedford; her grandchildren: Melinda Shows and husband Brock of Liberty Hill; Justin Smith and wife Kim of Greenwood; Trey Smith and wife Whitney of Clifton; Daniel Kinkade of Bedford; and great grandchildren: Brynlyn and Kinley Shows of Liberty Hill; and Kaydence Smith of Greenwood.
Funeral will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, November 30, 2013 at the First Baptist Church of Gordon with burial to follow at the New Gordon Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home. Visitation will start at 9:00 am prior to the service.
