Barbara Adams Wheat, age 84, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Sunday, October 25, 2015 while in Branson, MO. A celebration of her life will be held at 1:00pm Wednesday, October 28th at the First Baptist Church in Eastland. Family and friends will gather at 4:30 to 7:00 pm, Tuesday, October 27th at Edwards Funeral Home in Eastland for visitation. Burial will be at the Bullock Cemetery north of Ranger, TX.
Barbara was born October 19, 1931 in Strawn, TX to John Quincy and Vera Shelburne Adams. She graduated from Ft. Hancock High School and went to Sul Ross University to obtain her BS in Home Economics and Education and taught in Pecos, Abilene and Olden. While teaching in Pecos she met County Extension Agent, Ralph Gary “Buck” Wheat who was full of zeal and had a bigger than life personality. Barbara married Buck Wheat on August 6, 1955 in Ft. Hancock, TX beginning their joyful and abundant life together.
Barbara was always extremely passionate about her walk with God through Jesus Christ her Savior loving her family and loving other people in general, especially those hurting. She was constantly on the go to the very end, enjoying every social opportunity with loved ones. She was a member of the Civic League, Library Club, Garden Club and the “Red Star Coffee Club”. She attended Sunday School at First Baptist Church, Eastland and played the piano for worship service at Olden Baptist Church.
She proudly wore the self-proclaimed title of “I am The Most Blessed Widow I Know”. Her enthusiasm, love for others and endless encouragement have been such a blessing to so many. She decided instead of complaining, to make a conscious choice to invest in others.
She is survived by two sons and two daughters; Gary Wheat and wife, Lois; Clay Wheat and wife, Susan; Sherry Pippen and husband, Greg; and Cindy Koenig and husband, Devin. Barbara adored her grandchildren who affectionately knew her as Nonnie B. They are Buck Wheat and wife Ashley, Laine Johnson and husband Jared, Remington Wheat and wife Paige, Stetson Wheat, McKinsey Page and husband C.J., Caitlin Wheat, Kyann Cook and husband Colton, Trey Williamson, Whitney Williamson, Seth Williamson, Tessa Williamson, Jessika Martin and husband Brad, Cory Pippen and wife Jaci, Makayla Broyles and husband Bryan, Jayln Johnson and husband Garrett, Jaryn Lynch and husband Toby, Jenna Koenig and Avery Koenig along with 10 great-grandchildren. Barbara is also survived by a brother, Johnny Adams and a sister, Ann Franklin. She loved and thoroughly enjoyed very close relationships with her many in laws, nieces, and nephews. Barbara considered Charla Henson, the family business secretary, a significant part of her family as well.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and loving husband Buck Wheat and a sister, Mary Miller.
