Me and My B
Me and my B, so many happy times I see. Memories of her braiding my hair, and me helping roll hers while she sat in the chair. I see bobby pins, rollers, brushes, and nail polish, we always had fun trying to see what we could accomplish. Memories of hearing her talk about my dad, and how he was once a tiny little lad. I see a suit from his childhood that was handmade, which had material that was beginning to fade. Memories of sewing, crafting, drawing and painting, with her, there is always something in the making. I see material and thread scattered about, "stiffy glue", paper, pencils, and paint too, no doubt. Yes, Me and my B, so many happy times I see. Memories from younger years, of going to Holiday Happenings, craft fairs, and taking classes in drawing. I see Christmas decor, us walking side by side, and her working at my booth with lots of pride. Memories of riding in the car, and helping her measure and appraise houses that weren't too far. I see her thumb moving up and down on the steering wheel, the peanut butter crackers, and the green Wrigley's Gum, always a thrill. Memories of holidays and special times spent with John, for these are just some things of which I am fond. I see a poinsettia, tinsel, homemade hot cocoa on the stove in a pot, and him with his gravy, cantaloupe, and pepper "hitting the spot." Yes, Me and my B, so many happy times I see. Memories as a teen, of working for her, which led to me landing my first job, working with a copier. I see a typewriter, pictures of houses, papers galore, and home-cooked meals brought to me on Saturdays at the printing store. Memories of daily high school and college lunches, deciding how much to eat was hard because there was always bunches. I see a table set, or a note on the fridge with a meal plan, I didn’t even have to open a can. Memories of wrapping my arms around her, while she cried on my shoulder. I see tears running down her face, because our John seemed to be in another place. Yes, Me and my B, so many happy times I see. Memories of little goody bags and treats, for my boys and husband are always so sweet. I see a plate of sugar cookies, packages of peanuts from her stash, gift samples, toys and occasionally cash. Memories of listening to her childhood stories, and her rarely seeming to have any worries. I see smiles, laughter, books, and a little girl who had to become a cook. Memories of a woman who will always be an amazing grandmother and friend to me. I see strength, and a will that is bold, and most definitely a heart made of gold. Oh, Yes, Me and my B, so many happy times I see.

Beauty is Fleeting
“Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all. Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate."
Proverbs 31: 29-31
We live in a world where beauty is praised, appearance is esteemed and looks are valued. But, at the end of the day, when all the makeup is off and we are exposed, so to speak, what does God see? HE sees a beautiful, righteous, beloved daughter who is covered in grace because of the finished work on the cross. When we are able to fully receive HIS love for us, just as we are, and in awe, worship HIM for who HE is, then we begin to radiate HIS beauty that doesn't fade as HIS heart shines through us. My 84 year old grandmother is battling jaw cancer. She has endured 2 jaw surgeries, chemo and radiation. ln the world's eyes, her beauty is fleeting. But, I see her heart and so does Jesus! THAT beauty will never cease. All of my life, she has been a servant, putting others' needs before her own. Even in the midst of her struggle, she has continued to serve, offer hospitality and love in spite of her pain. I can only imagine that Jesus is saying, "Well done, my good and faithful servant." My grandmother's days may be few, but she will pass on a legacy that's to be praised. I want to be one to worship Jesus by the way I live. See, that's what fearing the Lord is, living a life of worship and gratitude. So, as I get ready to apply my makeup, cover up my blemishes and tweeze the unwanteds, may I remember what true beauty is-..inner beauty that can't help but shine on the outer!!
