Betty Ima Jean Gibbs, 90, of Ranger, passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2017 in Ranger. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday at Second Baptist Church, 119 Commerce Street Ranger, with Rev. Aubrey Perrella officiating.
Betty was born July 10, 1927 in DeLeon, Texas. She was adopted by Lewis and Viola Browning of Eastland County when she was a few days old, and spent her childhood there, before moving to Huckabay, Texas where she graduated from high school. She attended both Ranger College and North Texas Teacher’s College, studying music. Betty married and became a stay at home mother to her five children. She later worked many years as a nurse’s aide, teacher’s aide, and taught private piano lessons. She was a longtime member of Second Baptist Church, then the First Baptist Church in Ranger where she was a member of the sanctuary choir. Later in life she served as church pianist for Eastside Baptist Church, and was a receptionist for Edwards Funeral Home in Ranger.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis Henry and Viola Browning.
Survivors include four sons, Larry Monroe (Carolyn), Milton Monroe, Danny Monroe, and Mike Monroe all of Ranger; a daughter, Jeanine (Roger) Grizzard of Weatherford; nine grandchildren; and many great and great-great-grandchildren.
