Billie Pounds

Billie Dulane Pounds was born September 30, 1925 and passed away April 6, 2013. He is survived by his wife Peggy Vaught , Midland, Texas and children Danny Pounds and wife Charlotte of Lakeway, Texas, Carol DeArment and husband Rick of Garden Ridge, Texas, Blaine Pounds and wife Alisha of Pfleugerville, Texas. B. V. Vaught and Debbie of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and Ray Vaught of Midland, Texas. Grandchildren Shana Burrow, Trey DeArment, Leigh Burkett, Stacy Carter, Sarah Pounds, Kent Pounds, Laci Pounds, Chelsea Besser, Megan Vaught, and Clayton Vaught and seven great grandchildren. Two sisters, Margie Crouch and husband of Dallas, Texas and Betty Barnes of Eastland, Texas, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends .

Bill was born in Eastland County to Hubert C. and Belma Pounds. He graduated from Ranger Junior College with an associate degree. He moved to West Texas in 1944 and started to work for National Supply Company in Jal, New Mexico. He was promoted to manager of the National Supply in Kermit and Monahans, Texas, later Big Springs, Texas and to Odessa, Texas in 1959. He worked for National Supply for over 25 years, retiring in 1969, He went to work for Gandy McCauley, in 1969, then Equipment Renewal in 1971, retiring in 1988.

He obtained his pilot's license in 1975 and purchased a Mooney M-20-F in 1976. He welcomed opportunities to fly family and friends. Bill became actively involved with the Confederate Air Force, later renamed Commemorative Air Force, and purchased a BT-13, Voltec (lLil Dumplin). He and wife Peggy flew in air shows throughout the United States. When the CAF was relocated to Midland, Texas from Harlington, Texas, Bill took on the responsibility of the move, and coordinated the Air shows in 1991and 1992,was the West Texas Wing Leader and was part of the team instrumental in this relocation to the Midland-Odessa Air Terminal. Bill continued to be active in the CAF, and flew around the Statue of Liberty with a group of CAF members in 2001.

Bill was a 32 degree Mason, active with the Odessa Lions Club, was a Schriner and supported the Shriner's Children's Hospital, 2222 Wellborn, Dallas, Texas 75219. He was well known for his sense of humor and pranks.  Always when asked I'd he needed anything else, he said "just a kind word".

Memorial Service will be held in Eastland, Texas at Bethel Baptist Church at 1:00 p.m. Saturday. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Shriner's Children's Home.
