Brenda Joyce Stephenson, a beloved nurse, devoted mother, grandmother, and compassionate friend, passed away peacefully at her home on March 18, 2025, at the age of 74. Born on July 7, 1950, in Waco, Texas to Albert Woodrow and Myrtle Estelle (Poe) Hill, she spent her life dedicated to caring for others and advocating for those in need.
Brenda graduated from Cross Plains High School in 1968 and went on to become a licensed vocational nurse, serving the Big Country with unwavering kindness and dedication for over 30 years. Her gentle touch and compassionate spirit touched the lives of countless patients and families, earning her the admiration and love of all who knew her.
A passionate advocate for animal welfare, Brenda was known for her extreme generosity and her love for rescuing animals. She found joy in the little things, especially in the presence of hummingbirds and the connection she had with nature. She loved gardening and planted everything from fruit trees (even had a bee hive once), vegetables, flowers, roses. Her commitment to making the world a better place extended beyond her professional life; she was a proud Patron Member of the NRA and a devoted supporter of the ASPCA.
Brenda's faith was an integral part of her life, and she was a cherished member of Nimrod Baptist Church, where she found community and fellowship.
Brenda is survived by her loving husband, Charles Stephenson of Cisco, her beloved daughters, Danielle Black and husband, David of Tuscola, and Amanda Thompson and husband, Rocky of Cisco; five step-children, Dana Lee Stephenson of Cisco, Dana Lymon Stephenson of Fort Mitchell, Alabama, Ann Marie Honea of Weatherford, Mary Louise Kittereo of Pensacola, Florida, and Thomas Charles Stephenson of Fort Mitchell, Alabama. Brenda has twenty grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren, whom she loved playing board and card games with. Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Woody and Estelle Hill.
A memorial service to celebrate Brenda's life will be held on March 24, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Edwards Funeral Home in Eastland, Texas. Family and friends are invited to gather as we honor her memory and the many lives she touched during her time with us.
