C.B. Harris of Eastland, TX passed from this life to his Heavenly Home Sunday, December 20, 2015. He was 96 years old. Visitation will start at 9 am on Tuesday, December 22 with the Funeral Service to follow at 10:30 am at the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Eastland. Burial will be at the Murray Cemetery in Carbon, TX.
C.B was born February 7, 1919 in Carbon, TX to Rodger and Cliffie Harris. He married Nona Lavelle Vaughan on June 12, 1940. They were blessed with 70 years of marriage before she passed away in October, 2010. C.B. and Nona had three children – Laura, John and Wayne.
C.B. grew up in the Carbon Community. He farmed and did construction work during the depression. In 1945 he joined the US Navy. After his service he went to work for the T&P Railroad, then later for the Missouri Pacific. He retired from the railroad in 1979.
C.B. and Nona attended Inspiration Church of God until it closed. They were active in ministry while there. For many years they worked in the children’s bus ministry. Later they attended Merriman Baptist Church.
C.B. and Nona were blessed with many years of retirement together. They spent much of that time camping and fishing. C.B. enjoyed building wood projects for his family until Macular Degeneration robbed him of much of his vision.
C.B. was preceded in death by his wife Nona, his son and daughter-in-law John and Jone Harris, his parents; Rodger and Cliffie, Siblings: Alta Arnold, J.D. Harris, Tommie Harris and his sister’s children including Bearl Arnold of Eastland.
He is survived by two children; daughter, Laura Horn and husband Mark of Ft. Worth and son, Wayne Harris and wife Pat of Laguna Park; 10 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren; and many niece, nephews, and friends.
The family would like to express special appreciation to Meals on Wheels and the lovely people who delivered lunch to C.B. from 2010-2013. We would also like to express our love and appreciation to the staff at Eastland Nursing and Rehab for their care, love, and friendship during the 2 ½ years C.B. spent there.
