Carl Cecil Isbell

Carl Cecil Isbell, 81, of Gordon, passed away Sunday, August 17, 2014 in Gordon. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Gordon with Rev. Michael Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the New Gordon Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Edwards Funeral Home in Strawn on Tuesday from 6 until 8:00 p.m.
Cecil was born on July 30, 1933 in Jacksboro, TX the fifth out of 12 children born to William and Zella (Rummage) Isbell. He married Mildred Clayton, the love of his life, in Jacksboro on June 20, 1953. Cecil retired from the Texas Highway Department after working 37 years, 20 as a Maintenance Supervisor. Cecil served in the U.S. Army, then 3 years in the Texas National Guard. He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 sisters; and 2 brothers. Cecil loved his church and was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Gordon, where he served for many years as a deacon, church Treasurer, Men’s Sunday School teacher, and various committees. He loved working in Bible School. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. His wife, children, and grandchildren were to love and light of his life.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mildred; daughters, Carla Swagger and husband Larry, Teresa Foster and husband Mike; son, Michael Isbell; grandchildren, Kristi Carter, Kimberly Yandell and husband Jimmy, Ashley Wice and husband Thomas, Nathan Isbell, Heath Isbell, Kenna Manley, Maegan Ross and husband Andrew, and Wendy Manley; 13 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren; 4 brothers, Sonny Isbell, Lloyd Isbell, Claude Isbell, and Allan Isbell; and 2 sisters, Jolene McBee, and Thelma Beasley.
