Vaneta went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 5, 2017, while surrounded by her loved family at her side. She was born in Eastland, TX on February 22, 1927. She is the daughter of the late Hugh and Clara Mahaffey of Eastland. Her husband of 29 years, Gene Vincent Rhodes, preceded her in death as well as her daughter, Andrea Evelyn Williams of Denton, and infant granddaughter, Rene Evelyn Williams. Vaneta was also preceded in death by her siblings, Dale Mahaffey, Charles Mahaffey, and Ernest Mahaffey.
She is survived by her son, Norman Rhodes (Cindy) of Denton; along with four grandchildren, Leigh Williams Vincent (Troy), Laura Rhodes Babcock, Stephanie Williams Johnson (Charles), and Philip Rhodes and one sister, Joyce Bennett. She was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren.
Vaneta was a graduate of Eastland High School class of 1945, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She is a lifetime member of First Baptist Church in Eastland. She married Gene V. Rhodes on April 6, 1946 in Ranger, TX. Vaneta was able to pursue her love of travelling the world, visiting the Holy Lands, taking an African safari, and an Alaskan cruise. She enjoyed working with FBC on their building committee, joining the Eastland bowling league, and teaching Sunday School. She cherished her family and friends. “Nana” was also known for her homemade ice cream and chicken spaghetti. She will by truly missed.
Services will be held at First Baptist Church in Eastland, TX on Saturday, April 8th at 10:00 a.m. with a visitation preceding it at 9:00 a.m. Interment will be in the Eastland City Cemetery directed by Edwards Funeral Home.
