Darwin L Miller, born August 10, 1924, passed from this life, to everlasting life at the age of 96, on July 16, 2021. Darwin, a lifelong resident of Eastland, Texas, was brought into this life by a widowed mother Zettye Lake Parrack. He had a brother AG Parrack, and sister Myra Evans, that he loved with a love that knew no bounds.
Darwin, like many young men during WWII, joined the Marine Corps on April 1943, and proudly served as a member of the 6th Marine Division which has the distinction of being the only Division in the history the Marine Corps to never serve on US soil. On Easter Sunday, 1945, the 6th Marines landed on Okinawa with their mission to take possession of the air fields on the North of the Island and move South. The battle on Okinawa lasted 82 days and history considers it to be the toughest battle of the Pacific War.
Upon his return to civilian life he married Dolores Rushing on November 27, 1946.
His first job was at Victor Cornelius, a local Theatrical Advertising company in Eastland. There he made a career that lasted many years. He worked at many different jobs learning the processes as he went. Upon his retirement he had become President of the company having seen many innovative changes and products that put the company on the map throughout the US and abroad. The family wants to thank the Cornelius family, and the many employees that were part of his extended family for making his life so enjoyable.
Darwin was a Master Mason with over 60 years as a member of the Eastland Masonic Lodge #467. He was also proud of his membership, for life, in the 6th Marine Division Association. He served as President of the Eastland Lions Club, Quarterback Club, Little League, and Teenage League Baseball. His community involvement was driven by the love of the city of Eastland and its people. When he introduced himself to a stranger he always added “from Eastland, Texas.” This gave him a chance for that “Chamber of Commerce” moment.
Darwin’s wife of 57 years, Dolores, preceded him in death in 2002. He is survived by his son Mike and wife Dawn of Mansfield, Texas, 3 grandchildren Jason Miller and wife Amy of Mansfield, Jennifer Braren and husband Hark of Ft.Worth, and Kristofer Miller, of Mansfield. 5 Great-grandchildren children Bethany and Nolan Miller, Madison, Max, and Mason Braren. His nieces, nephews, and cousins have always been a source of pride and mutual admiration. Facebook allowed him to keep tabs on their lives whether they knew it or not.
The family will have a visitation for friends and family at Edwards Funeral Home in Eastland, Texas, on August 7th from 10AM-12PM, with a grave side service following at 1:00 PM at the Eastland Cemetery.
