Dewey W. Struck

Dewey Struck joined his beloved wife Zoetta Struck, and his twin brother Herbert Struck in Heaven on February 8, 2018. Services for Dewey will be Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at 10 am at the Leon River Cowboy Church in Olden. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Monday at the Edwards Funeral Home at 411 South Mulberry in Eastland. Burial will be at the Murray Cemetery in Carbon.
Dewey was born on August 23, 1921 to Travis Walter and Lutie (Arnold) Struck. He was one of nine children, who have all proceeded him in death.
Dewey was a Master Carpenter by trade and built many homes, and renovations to buildings in his lifetime. He loved working with his hands and building things. His hobbies over the years included raising grey hounds and watching them race across the open lands after rabbits. He loved to play music of all kinds. His instrument of choice later in life was his Dobro which he excelled at. Dewey could play any musical instrument that was given him. Although he never learned to read music he would be able to hear it and recreate it and many times enhance the music to something that was much more beautiful.
Dewey proudly served his country during World War II, in which he served in the 5th Air Force, 530th Bomb Squadron, 380th Bomb Group, in the Southwest Pacific. His service was from 1942 to 1945 when he was discharged. He flew 44 combat missions totaling 427 hours, more than any other member of his crew. He and his crew were personally credited with 6 enemy aircraft destroyed. He later served his country by working and promoting the VFW Post 4136 by serving as Commander and as an All-American District Commander of 8th District 1991-1992, serving as Public Relations for Texas VFW 1992-1993. He was recognized in July of 2013 as the oldest active veteran in the state of Texas.
Dewey lived his life by Godly principals; you work hard and earn an honest living; you honor your mother and father; you forgive your enemy’s (although you may remind them every so often of wrongs); you give unselfishly of yourself. His capacity for love was beyond what most people can comprehend. His heart was such that no one left his home hungry, and if he saw a financial need he would give everything he had to help.
His love for family was beyond measure, he treasured every get together on holidays or just because. To him family was everything and he loved his children very much; Ronald Dewey and wife Karen Struck; Peggy and husband Ronnie Johnson; Donna Huggins; Toni and husband Steve Watkins; Leslie and husband Mitchell Lewis; Traci Struck; Robert and wife Pam Struck; Amy and Husband Bastian Freitag. Dewey amassed a large family which would gather around him at every chance. He had 19 grandchildren, 23 great- grandchildren, and was expecting his first great-great grandchild later this year.
He was preceded in death by his parents TW and Lutie Struck, brothers Aubrey, Carlton, Earl, Billy, Archie, Herbert, Sonny; Sister Lillie Belle. His wife of 51 years Zoetta Struck, twin sons Larry and Garry Struck, and son-in-law Jimmy Huggins.
Although Dewey is gone from our lives he will never be forgotten as his legacy will live on with his children.
