EASTLAND – Donald “Don” Scott Brinkley, age 78, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, January 19, 2015. Services for Don will be 10:00am, Wednesday, January 21 at the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Eastland. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 – 7 pm.
Don was born August 11, 1936 in Eastland to J. I. “Doc” Brinkley and Cleo Scott Brinkley. In 1954, Don joined the US Army and served until 1956. While in the Army he served in occupied Germany guarding the fence, at that time, which separated East and West Germany. After his time in the military, Don met and married his beautiful wife, Barbara Seabourn, August 9, 1960 in Eastland. Don worked as a Lineman for 31 years, working for Texas Electric Service Co., TU Electric and finally ONCOR. On top of working and raising a family, Don was also and member of the Eastland Jaycees, past President of the Eastland Ag. Boosters, past member of the Eastland Co. Livestock Raisers Assoc., a past member of the Board of Directors of the Lake Cisco Christian Camp. He was also past Assistant Fire Chief for the Eastland Fire Department under Jack Graham. He is the second of three generations who have served Eastland of the Fire Department.
Don, in his free time, loved to hunt and fish. He also loved to do woodworking often making things for his much adored grandchildren. He was known for his “kidding around” and loved to joke. Don was a member of the Church of Christ.
Don is preceded in death by his parents and by 2 sisters, Wilma Raney and Ruby Copp and one brother, Bill Brinkley.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara Brinkley of Eastland, daughter, Lisa Sherman and husband Mike of Arlington and son, Scott Brinkley and wife Stacy of Stephenville, 4 grandchildren, Brent Sherman, Tyler Sherman, Kori Brinkley and Kelsee Brinkley. He is also survived by 2 brothers, Charles Brinkley of OK, Rodney Brinkley of Texas and a sister, Gearldine Lewis also of Texas.
