Don Wesley Massingill, a beloved rancher and lifelong resident of Eastland, Texas, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2025, at the age of 81. A proud graduate of Eastland High School, Don furthered his education at Cisco Junior College and was one of the first to graduate from the TCU Ranching Program. From an early age, he knew he was destined for the ranching life-opening his first checking account at Eastland National Bank at just 11 years old and purchasing his first cows at 15. He had a heart for agriculture and a lifestyle that revolved around the land and the cattle he loved.
Don spent many years working hard and later retired from Lone Star Gas, but his true calling remained on the ranch. He was a dedicated rancher who worked tirelessly to carry on the traditions he cherished and instilled those values in his family.
He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Massingill of Abilene; daughter, Rebecca Massingill of Eastland; son, William Massingill of Abilene; grandson, Cyrus Massingill of Abilene; 2 sisters, Mary Lynn Geurin and Carol Ann Green both of Stephenville; 3 step-children, Sean Polk and wife Kari, Cyndi Fisher, and Michelle Esposito; and numerous extended relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends at Edwards Funeral Home in Eastland on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2025, 3~6 p.m.
A family lunch will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 26th at Broadview Baptist Church in Abilene, followed by a funeral at 12:30 p.m. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. at Elmwood Memorial Park in Abilene. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation in Don's name to Broadview Baptist Church, 2500 S. 27th St, Abilene, Tx 79605 or to your favorite charity.
Don will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy as a hardworking rancher and dedicated family man will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
