1st Sgt. Donald P. Rodgers Sr. (U.S. Army, ret) passed away peacefully at his home on 13 June 2024, after fighting a lengthy battle with cancer.
Donald was the son of Mervin P. Rodgers and Catherine L. Rodgers of Bradford, PA. Donald met the love of his life, Judy, in high school. They married in September 1971 and began their adventure together. They shared 53 years of love and devotion to each other until Judy’s passing in 2023.
Donald dedicated his life serving his country, spending 20 years in the U.S. Army. In 1971, he began his U.S. Army career in the 82nd Airborne at Ft. Bragg, NC. In 1976, he transferred to the Signal Command which took his career to Ft. Huachuca, AZ, South Korea, Hohenfels, GE, Nurnberg, GE, Sacramento, CA, and finally retiring in Ft. Worth, Texas. Upon retiring from the U.S. Army, he worked for the Ft. Worth ISD ROTC Department until finally hanging up his boots.
He was preceded in death by his late wife, Judith Rodgers; his father, Mervin Rodgers; his mother, Catherine Rodgers; and his brother, Clyde Rodgers. Donald is survived by his daughter; Jennifer Olson (Ed), of Euless, TX; and his son, Donald P. Rodgers Jr (Teresa) of Christiana, TN. He is survived also by his seven grandchildren: Jordan Rodgers, Tyler Ames, Jamey Rodgers, Chase Olson, Tristan Smiley, Logan Rodgers, and Bradyn Olson; his four great grandchildren: Jaxon Rodgers, McKinley Rodgers, Ayden Ames, and Brooklyn Ames. He is also survived by his sister Paula Roggenbaum (Gary) of Douglassville, PA, his sister-in-law Cheryl Rodgers of Smethport, PA., his brother Carl Rodgers Sr. (Sandy) of Rixford, PA, his sister Debra Duffy of Norristown, PA, his sister Jean Ann Hanson of Springfield, VA, and his brother Steven Rodgers (Christine) of Partlow, VA.
