Dorene "Polly" Smith, 93, of Eastland passed away on Tuesday Feb. 19, 2013, at Homestead Nursing Homes in Cisco, Tx. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 on Thursday, Feb. 21 at Edwards Funeral Home in Eastland, TX. A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22, which would have been her 94th Birthday, at First Baptist Church in Eastland with Shawn Brewer officiating. Burial will follow in the Eastland Cemetery. Polly was born Feb. 22, 1919, in Carbon, Tx. to Daniel and Clara Martin. She also graduated from Carbon High School in 1936. She married Johnson Smith on May 19, 1944, and they were married for 49 years when he passed away in 1993. She was a homemaker as well as a caregiver. The babies she kept were Stephen Johnson and Jeremy Keith as well as grandchildren. She was also still able to keep great grandson, Hagen, even in her 80's. She also helped care for parents, father-in-law, and husband who was disabled for 15 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Eastland where she helped with many meals following funeral services. She also delivered Meals-on-Wheels until almost 90 years old. She was a member of the Senior Citizens, Civic League & Garden Club, and Home Demonstration Club. Polly was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a sister, Adele Boaen. She is survived by two daughters, Shirley & JD Ables and Clara & Herman Glueck all of Cisco; one grandson, Jason Glueck of Dublin; 3 granddaughters, Kalynn Lynch of Cisco, Paula & Bill Rehm of Austin, and Julie & Josh Honea of Cisco; 6 great grandchildren, Hagen Black, Phoebe & Kasi Lynch, and Harper Honea all of Cisco, Zoe and Jett Rehm of Austin; 2 step great grandchildren, Ariana and Trinity Rehm; one sister-in-law, Addie Smith of Colorado City, as well as numerous nieces and nephews; and her dear friends with whom she spent many hours drinking coffee. Memorials may be given to First Baptist Church of Eastland or the charity of your choice.
