Eastland- Dorothy Hapgood Perkins, 90, of Eastland died at her home October 3, 2014. Service will be Sunday October 5, 2014 at 3:00 PM at First Methodist Church Eastland, Texas. Visitation will be Sunday 2:00 PM before the service.
She was born February 23, 1924 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Joseph and Emily Perkins. She and her family moved to Eastland during the Oil Boom, in 1925. Dorothy graduated from Texas State College for Women in 1945. She went to Midland, Texas as a teacher of English, and she was active in cultural and community affairs. She enjoyed spending summer at the family home in Gleasondale, Massachusetts and traveling all over the world. She was a member of the Methodist Church where she sang in the choir. In 1999 she returned to Eastland, to her childhood home to spend, what she proclaimed were the happiest years of her life.
She is survived by her brother, Robert Perkins; and five nieces, Emily Beyette, Susan Bonner, Sally Arnold, Mary Spradling, and Emily Karlak.
The family would like to give thanks to her special caregivers, Eduarda Hernandez, Sandy Gomez, Shon Tafte, Kylie Tafte, and Dezeray Tafte for their loving care and devotion.
In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to the First Methodist Church Eastland, Texas.
