Dorothy Jean Hallmark Phillips, age 90, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 26, 2019. A memorial service is slated for 10:00am, Friday, March 1st at Lake Leon Baptist Church. Interment will follow at 3:00pm at Loraine Cemetery in Loraine, Texas.
Dorothy was born September 27, 1928 to Harry Goodwin and Virginia Sue Mayes Hallmark near Loraine, Texas. She graduated from Loraine High School in 1946 and Hardin-Simmons University in 1949.
She began teaching elementary school in Goldsmith, Texas in 1950. After meeting Aubrey Phillips on a blind date in January 1951 in Odessa, Texas, they married March 23rd at Loraine. They were together for 45 years, until he died in 1996.
During her 21 total years of teaching for Ector County ISD, she taught first and second grade at Goldsmith, Zavala and Cameron Elementary Schools. She retired in 1983.
After living in the Odessa area for 49 years, in 1999 she moved to Weatherford, Texas to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She moved to Eastland in 2018.
Besides being a loving wife, mother, grandmother (Nini) and friend to many, Dorothy was a lifelong student and teacher of the Bible. Wherever she lived and worshipped, she always sought opportunities to teach a women’s Sunday School class or Bible study group.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Aileen Marth, her husband, and infant son David Neal Phillips.
She is survived by son Peter Mark (Anna) Phillips of Wichita Falls, daughter Mary Ginna (Steve) Carroll of Eastland, grandchildren, Brent Holcomb, Holly (Matt) Copeland, Danielle Holcomb, Bethany Carroll (fiance Seth McCarty), Naomi Phillips and four great-grandchildren.
