She was born Edith Glen Pittman on January 16, 1913 to William Pittman and Zada Kearby Pittman in the family farm house in Mineral Wells on the Brazos River. She grew up with an older sister, Thelma and a younger brother, Joe and sister, Pat. She walked in the fields to a one room school house, when she couldn't find a neighbor child to piggy back her. She met Erwin H Collins "Jack" on a bus. Edith and her mother were joining their family in California and Jack boarded the bus in El Paso. By the time they reached California they had solidified a bond that led to marriage in 1938 on Edith's birthday and her parent's wedding anniversary. Their marriage lasted 59 years. Throughout that time, their priority was family. They had 3 children, Erwin H. Collins, Jr "Jack" (married to Beth Proctor), Tina Meyers (married to Doug), and Gayle "Gay" Collins. Five grandchildren; Jesse, Joshua, Thomas, Krista and Tiernan. Great grandmother to Jessee, Tyler, Yoon, Hagan, Kang San and Reilley. Two great-great grandsons; Braxton and Jordan. She was a loving aunt to Jim Snipes, Glenalys Snipes MacKenzie, JoAnne Shields, Patty Pittman, Norma Collins Birdwell and Deb Dugan. Jane Rockwood, who Edith called her "Special Daughter" mother to Jesse and Tom and dozens of great and great-great nieces and nephews.

She was well loved as the oldest living family member of her generation. She has many names and nicknames: Kildie, Bobbie, Baby, Mom, Aunt E, Aunt Edith, A Nut E, Sugar, Grandma, Grandma E, King Grandma and Waggles.
