Edith May (Allison) Foster, 92 of Eastland, passed away Friday, September 28, 2018 in Waco. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Edwards Funeral Home in Eastland with Jim Wright and Clay Wheat officiating. Burial will follow in the Eastland City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, Oct. 1st, 5~7:00 p.m.
Edith was born on a small farm South of Eastland on February 1, 1926 to Joseph Carroll Allison and Lillie May (Shelburne) Allison. She grew up in Eastland. She graduated from Eastland High School in 1943, with a four-year scholastic average higher than any that the school had on record at that time.
She attended Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, and graduated in 1948 with a degree in Religious Education, after which she pursued a secretarial career. Her career included being Area Secretary for the Texas State Department of Public Welfare in Abilene; then Legal Secretary at Abilene Savings Association; and after raising her children, at Sun Oil Company in Eastland.
Edith married Elmer L. Foster on July 17, 1964. He preceded her in death on July 13, 1994. Edith was active in the Eastland Civic League and Garden Club after she retired. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Eastland, her beloved hometown.
She devoted her life to her family, being a stay at home mom and homemaker, and took great pride in the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. She led by example, exhibiting her strong spiritual faith and interest in civic responsibility.
She and her husband built the family home at Lake Leon and enjoyed hosting numerous gatherings of family and friends with abundant food and joyous laughter.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Carolyn Foster and Fred Karsner; her son, John Calvin Foster and wife Ann; 2 beloved grandsons, David James Foster and Jacob Garrett Foster; brother, James C. Allison and wife Mary Ann; and sister, Betty Allison Beaty; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Winston Allison, Carroll Allison, John L. Allison, Grady N. Allison, and Nelson T. Allison; and sister Verne Ella (Allison) Dykes.
Memorial donations in her name may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 215 S. Mulberry, Eastland, TX 76448.
