Ella Joy Conner was born November 9, 1939 in Ranger and left this life on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 in Houston, Texas.
A lifelong resident of Eastland, Ella Joy graduated from Eastland High School in 1958 and went on to attend college at Cisco Jr. College. She earned her real estate broker's license and her insurance agent license. She also worked in home health care for many years.
Ella Joy was taught art by her mother, Florence Castleman Walker, who was a well-known artist. Joys' love for art continued throughout her life and she has had many exhibitions of her art. She was also one of the founders of Artists of Eastland County and a very active member, holding the position of Vice-President when she died.
Music was another of Mrs. Conner's hobbies. She played for weddings, funerals and many churches throughout Eastland County. She was of late the pianist at Harmony Baptist Church of Morton Valley. Mrs. Conner enjoyed writing as well. She has penned several short stories and has two movie scripts that she submitted for consideration. Her hand made Christmas cards often featuring one of her own paintings along with a message. She was also an active member of the Divas and the Eastland County Historical Society.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Florence Castleman Walker and Monroe Walker; her oldest son, Mark Conner; and a brother, Don Walker.
Survivors include a son, Chris Conner of Camp Woods, Texas; her long time companion and dearest friend, Kent Davis of Eastland; a sister-in-law, Joyce Walker of Austin; a niece Cheryl McCarthy of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; a nephew, Steve Walker of Austin; and a multitude of friends that she considered family.
Mrs. Conner asked to be cremated so there will be a memorial service at a later date.
