Monday, May 16, 2022 Elvira Duncan Short, age 99, celebrated a joyous reunion with her and friends in heaven. She was a loving wife, friend and adopted mother to many.
Elvira, also known to family as "Nick" was born on August 30, 1922 in Mansfield, Louisiana to loving parents Ben Duncan and Roberta Hart Duncan. Elvira was the oldest of seven brothers and sisters who all proceeded her in death, Aubry, Reva, Missouri, Levert, Helen and Vessie Lee. She was homecoming princess in 1940 at Mansfield Louisiana High School where she graduated. She worked many jobs in food service and as a caregiver. She was known for her beautiful smile, loving personality and snazzy dressing. She was also a lifelong fan of the Dallas Cowboys and could easily discuss stats on the team even at 99 years of age.
Elvira was married for 52 years to Perry Short, who proceeded her in death in 2012. Perry and Elvira were both Christians born, raised and baptized in the Blood of the Lamb. They were married in Eastland in June 1960 and were well known figures of the St. Paul Baptist Church until it closed in 2008. Elvira and Perry both had a love of the outdoors, fishing and animals. She had a kind spirit and loved people.
Although Elvira had no biological children she was deeply loved by and survived by her nephew, Curtis Reed of Mansfield, Louisiana; niece, Tricia Duncan of Mansfield, Louisiana; Janice Graham of Ranger, Texas; Donnice Graham of Ranger, Texas; Shirley Jones of California; Joyce and Bobby May of Aubrey, Texas and leaves to morn a host of nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
A visitation will be 10-11:00 AM on Saturday, May 21st at Edwards Funeral Home located at 211 Pine Street, Ranger, Texas, 76470. The phone number is 254-647-1133.
Funeral services will be at 11: 00 AM Saturday, May 21, 2022 at Edwards Funeral Home in Ranger, Texas. Jeralyn Sledge will be officiating and burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
