On Tuesday, January 19,2021, Eva “Linda” Nelson, loving wife and mother to 6 children, passed away peacefully at the age of 75.
Linda was born on November 2, 1945 in Gorman, Texas to Truma & Jefferson Warren Choate. She lost her father at a very young age and her mother remarried Casey Glen Meazell who officially adopted her.
In high school Linda was an avid basketball player, and she played the piano beautifully.
She was a lady of many names such as Mom, Linda, Mamaw, Big Mama and Lou. She loved people & was often caught crocheting. She was known to crochet afghans for her entire family. She often donated her afghans to the Open Door located in Cisco, TX. (The Open Door is a faith-based, life-affirming pregnancy and family center that provides resources, mentoring and education for life skills.)
Linda was the biggest dog lover. They never needed a doorbell as the dogs would always announce someone was at the door. She enjoyed riding horses & being in the Eastland County Sheriff’s Posse along with her husband, Joe and daughter, Eva Lynn Alford.
She loved working with her father & husband in the restaurant business, her dad opened most of the local cafes around. Most of all, she adored her family. She instilled strong family values in her children that have served them well. She will be missed dearly & forever in our hearts.
After living in Cisco for a year, she moved to the coast and worked for Friendly Loans Finance Company for 13 years.
She married her best friend & love of her life, Dudley “Joe” Nelson, on November 18, 1972. They did everything together from riding motorcycles to fishing. They loved going to Branson and playing the penny slots. They did their best to attend every grandchild’s extracurricular events & this was a lot of events to go to as you will find out as you keep reading. It was a rare moment to find the two of them apart.
Linda was a pioneer during the Oil Boom in the 1980’s. She was very well known and respected as a manager for Snow Pipe & Supply and Snow Well Service, where she and Joe made lifelong friends. She was a very hard worker who always gave 110%. Later she went on to work for Tri-Tex in Eastland, Texas. She then moved on to working for Eagle Construction as a Cost Accountant, where she made a home for herself. She thought she was ready to retire from Eagle until Terry Rose with Outdoor Specialties asked her to join their crew. She worked at Outdoor Specialties as an Administrator/Accountant for almost 13 years. The crew at Outdoor Specialties was her second family where she was known as Big Mama.
Linda is survived by her six children & their spouses: daughter, Eva Lynn Alford & husband, Steven; son, Albert Clark Brooks & wife, Lori along with son, Danny Lynn Nelson & wife, Emily, and three stepdaughters; Lisa Nelson; Lori Hofner & husband, Don; Libby Hopper & spouse, Kenny.
