Gary Cade Mathis

EASTLAND – Gary Cade Mathis, age 66, passed away on Friday, May 21, 2021 after battling end stage renal failure for over a decade. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, May 25 at Eastland City Cemetery at 11 am. Family and friends will gather Monday from 6-8pm at Edwards Funeral Home, 411 S Mulberry in Eastland.
Gary was born December 31, 1954 in Lubbock, TX to Jack and Ann Pryer Mathis. He was a 1973 graduate of Eastland High School and completed two associates degrees at Texas State Technical Institute in Waco for auto mechanics. Gary raised two children on his own after his wife, Mary passed in 1992. Both of his kids acknowledge how proud they are of him for being the stubborn fighter he was and not letting his medical setbacks take him away sooner.
Gary was preceded in death by his father Jack, mother Ann and wife Mary Hughes Mathis.
He is survived by his children; Erin Rose Mathis and Eric Cade Mathis, brother; Larry Mathis of Arlington, sisters; Liz Hatch and husband Lee of Abilene, and Theresa Mathis of Lewisville as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Thanks so much to the numerous doctors, nurses, dialysis techs, home health attendants and family friends over the years for taking care of him, body and spirit.
