George Lee Nowak, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed away peacefully on March 17, 2014, surrounded by family and friends. He was 75 years old.
George was born February 21, 1939 on Dodson Prairie in Palo Pinto County to Adolph and Julia Poydock Nowak. He married Kathi (Kate) Swanson on July 30, 1966 and was a long-time resident of Mingus. He was elected to the office of Precinct Three Commissioner in Palo Pinto County in 1976 and served in that capacity for the next 32 years, elected repeatedly for eight consecutive terms before retiring in 2009.
George was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Jimmy Paul Nowak of Dodson Prairie; his sister, Frances Lewis of Dodson Prairie, and his son Brad Nowak of Strawn.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Kate of Mingus; daughter and son-in-law Julia Ann and Peter Gibson of Burleson; son and daughter-in-law Eric and Denise Nowak of Strawn; daughter-in-law Shan Nowak Lewis of Strawn; granddaughters Lauren Jackson and her husband Jeremy Jackson, Taylor Whitenton, Heather Nowak, Hannah Nowak and Hayden Nowak; grandsons Seth Whitenton, Harrison Nowak and Kyle Nowak; step-grandsons Tyler, Tanner and Trent Gibson; five great-grandchildren, Evan, Marley, Hailey; Jace and Hayes; sisters Doris Thornton of Saginaw and Thelma Thornton of Santo, sister-in-law Pat Venable of Dodson Prairie and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 10 AM Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Strawn, Texas under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Strawn. In lieu of flowers the family is asking that donations be made to Tri-City Ambulance Service of Gordon, Texas 76453.
