Gerald R. Mercer, age 89 of Olden entered eternal rest, December 28, 2020. Funeral services will be held at 3pm, Saturday, January 2, 2021 at Edwards Funeral Home, 411 S Mulberry in Eastland. Visitation will be from 1 – 3pm that same day before the service. Due to Covid-19 the family asks that everyone attending wear a mask. Masks will be provided at the funeral home if you do not have one.
Gerald was born in Santa Rosa, CA on December 16, 1931 to Robert Keath and Velma Faye Burger Mercer. He is a decorated Korean and Vietnam War veteran. Gerald served in the US Navy from May 1951 to August 1973 and retired as Senior Chief Petty Officer. He met the love of his life, Jessie Lou Holden, in Ajo, Arizona in 1953 and they married shortly after on March 6,1954 in Carson City, Nevada and have been married for 66 years and 10 months. They settled in Olden the summer of 1968.
He is survived by his wife Jessie, sons; Robert Keith Mercer II and wife Sandra, and Gerald Wayne Mercer and wife Kelli, daughter-in-law; Annette Mercer, his 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, sisters; Corrine Queen and Jacquelyn Taylor. Gerald was preceded in death by two sons; Gary Lewis Mercer and Ronald Lee Mercer.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the Olden Volunteer Fire Department and the Eastland County Dispatch.
