Hazel Marie Collins, 91 of Eastland, passed away Saturday August 31, 2019 in Ranger. Services will be at 2 pm Tuesday at the Bethel Baptist Church in Eastland. Burial will follow in the Eastland City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Edwards Funeral Home, Monday 5~7 pm.
Hazel was born August 19, 1928 in Gorman to Newton Ferris Bennett and Tezzie Emily (McGaha) Bennett. She was a graduate of Gorman High School. On August 24, 1946 she married Mr. W. R. Collins in Carbon and spent the next 49 years by his side until his death October of 1995. She worked for many years as a clerk for the Eastland Drug Store and made the best chicken salad sandwiches. She also served as a volunteer at the Majestic Theater. In her spare time she loved to bowl, was an excellent seamstress and collected birds. Hazel was a long time member of the Bethel Baptist Church.
Hazel is survived by her 3 daughters, Jane Besselaar of Cross Plains, Jean “C.J.” Collins of Arlington, VA and June Darr of Eastland, two sisters; Helen Craighead of Odessa and Barbara Tucker of Gorman, Grandchildren: Zachary Darr, Anthony Darr, DeAnna Zell, Donna Valcourt, Marie Gregory and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband W. R., a sister, Mary Teakell and a brother Johnny Wayne Bennett.
