RANGER – Helen Marie Plew, 84, of Lampasas, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2014 in Ranger, Texas. The family will receive friends at New Hope Baptist Church in Ranger Saturday, 9~11:00 AM. followed by a church service at 11:00. Graveside services will be held at 4:00 PM Saturday at the Kempner City Cemetery in Kempner, Texas.
Helen was born December 18, 1929 in Lampasas to Fred Wayland Smith and Malinda Mae Sweet. Helen married Johnie Plew May 8, 1946 in Lampasas. Helen was a very humble person that loved church and the old hymns, she loved everyone and everyone loved her. She was a member of Northside Baptist in Lampasas, but in Ranger she attended New Hope Baptist Church. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, crocheting, gardening, and game shows.
Helen is survived by her mother Malinda Atkins of South Carolina, 1 son, and1 daughter Katherine Watson and her husband Jack who was a very special son-in-law. 4 brothers; Roger Smith of Quinlan, Donald Smith of Lampasas, Marvin Smith of De Soto, and Darrell Smith of Washington State. 4 sisters; Edith Johnson, Yvonne Dollarhyde both of Washington State, Judy Hewgley of Colorado, and Marilyn Melvin of South Carolina, 7 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.
She is preceded in death by her husband Johnie Plew of 54 years, father Fred Smith, brother Billy Smith, son John Plew, and special aunt Ellen Gaddy.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations to the New Hope Baptist Church in Ranger, Texas or to the First Baptist Church in Kempner, Texas.
