Howard Lessley Thompson, 89 of San Antonio and formerly of Eastland, passed away Wednesday September 6, 2017 in San Antonio. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, September 11th at the Eastland City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Edwards Funeral Home Monday from 10 a.m. until noon.
Mr. Thompson was born May 30, 1928 in Fluvanna, TX to Woodie Edward Thompson and Lou Cindy (Scott) Thompson. He was an Airman 1st Class in the Air Force during the Korean War. He married Ella Aline Huber on September 3, 1955 in Cisco. They moved to Eastland in 1967 where he was a member of the First Baptist Church. He was employed by Lone Star Gas from which he retired after 46 years in 1993.
He was preceded in death by his wife of almost 62 years, Ella Thompson on April 21, 2017; his parents; six sisters; Vera Talley, Bessie Hill, Lida Ballinger, Lou Foster, Nancy Sue Thompson, and Nora Belle Ballinger; and by two brothers, Henry Clay Thompson, and Raymond Edward Thompson.
Survivors include three daughters; Shirley Marusak of Shreveport, LA, Pam Schledwitz (Herb) of San Antonio, and Becky O’Neal, of Goose Creek, SC; granddaughters, Cassie Chauncey, Sarah Macri, Kadie Dich, Abbi Long, and Rachel O’Neal, and eight great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
