Howard Edwin "Ed" Violet

December 21, 1943 — September 8, 2022

On September 8, 2022, Howard Edwin “Ed” Violet, 78 of Ranger, passed away after experiencing cardiac arrest. As their only son, Ed was born on December 21, 1943 in Dallas, Texas to Glen Howard Violet and Nancy Jane Ware. He was the “big” brother to his three sisters even though two of them were older than he. Ed was known for his smile and striking up a conversation. He could share family historical events as well as community occurrences.

Growing up in Irving, Texas, he went onto raise his family there too. He worked at a filling station on Rock Island and soon went to work in the water department at the City of Irving. After 20 years as an Irving Firefighter and various part-time jobs in his days off from the station, he repaired foreclosed homes, owned an asphalt paving business, and after leaving the fire department, he worked in horticulture, landscaping, and easement mowing. He found himself once again working for public works when he moved to Ranger in 2006.

As a young family man, he loved to camp, fish, boat and hunt. His fondness for west Texas started with having a hunting lease in the area. Hunting trips involved family and friends with a regular stop at Mary’s Cafe in Strawn to enjoy a platter-size chicken fried steak. With his return to the area and wrapping up his second retirement, he spent time fishing on Leon Lake.

His community involvement was giving back thru the Ranger Citizens Task Force with Roaring Ranger Days and Backpack Buddies top on his list. He enjoyed securing vendors for Roaring Ranger Days with the goal for everyone to have a great time at the annual event. He was also active in city government running for Place 4 Commissioner in 2018. Thank you to the loving community of Ranger that showed great love and affection to Ed.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Barbara Cox. Survivors include his daughter, Vickie Orcutt (Jon); a son, Dwayne Violet (Beth); 4 grandchildren Travis, Stephany, Sarah and Blake; and 7 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, September 16, 2022 at the Old Methodist Church in Ranger, Texas, 417 Elm Street, Ranger, TX 76470. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his name to Ranger Citizens Task Force, PO Box 542, Ranger, TX 76470.
