EASTLAND – James B. (Bill) Morton passed away Saturday, October 19th, 2013 at Abilene Regional Hospital. Services will be Tuesday October 22nd at First United Methodist Church in Eastland, TX at 2pm. Visitation will be held at Bakker Funeral home in Eastland, TX from 5pm - 7pm on Monday October 21st. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Eastland.
Bill was born December 9th, 1920 in Stephens County, TX to James Bascom Morton and Minnie Plant Morton. Bill was a mechanic by trade and worked at Muirhead motor company and Pipkin motor company. He retired from the Texas state highway department as a heavy machinery mechanic. His restless energy made him realize he was not one to settle into retirement life, so he went to work part time for Eastland Isd maintaining their bus fleet. He married Dois Wilson in 1940 and had three children; Jannie Lynell, Lyndia Kay and James Bascom. Bill married Florence Yancey in 1972.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dois Morton Hodges, Florence Yancey Morton, 11 siblings and his daughter Lyndia Kay.
He is survived by daughter Jannie and husband Al Rodgers of Abilene, son James and wife Suni Morton of Midland,
Grandchildren Richard and wife Tlee Rodgers of Abilene, Rodney Rodgers of Abilene, Randal and wife Lorie of Midland, McKayla Morton of Canyon, McKall and Behren Morton of Midland. He is also survived by nine great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, one sister Jessie Arrant of Abilene. Also included are step-daughters Maxine Lowrance, Joann Johnson and Peggy Quarella.
He was an active member of Eastland United Methodist Church, Eastern star and a Mason.
