James Wayne Stanford passed away April 13, 2022 at the Woodlands in Eastland at the age of 84. Services will be held Tuesday, April 19, 2022 with a visitation starting at 1:00 PM at Edwards Funeral Home in Ranger and the funeral service will start at 2:00 PM; burial will follow in Necessity Cemetery.
James was born March 31, 1938 to Duke Monroe Stanford and Opal Laverne Boney Stanford. He attended Caddo and Breckenridge Schools and was a Breckenridge graduate in 1957.
He attended Tarleton State one semester and Ranger Jr. College offered him a football scholarship. On February 21, 1959 he married Betty Smallwood they celebrated 63 years before his passing. Sul Ross State offered him a football scholarship; James graduated in 1962 from Sul Ross. After graduation he worked at Breckenridge Tool and T.P. in Hamlin and Ranger. After learning T.P. was being sold and he taught and coached for 5 years. In 1968 the family moved to La Casa to rebuild their family-owned house and land. James went to work at Triple S Dynamics in 1968 and he worked there until 2000 with the exception of one year he worked for Texas Railway Car in Ranger. He was a member of Elks 1480 for 51 years. When he retired the family bought a travel trailer and they had great traveling and met and made many friends.
Survivors are wife, Betty; 4 children, Cindy Conway, Wade Stanford and Marla, Debbie Stanford, and Larry Stanford and Crystal Whitefield; 7 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.
