JD Ables, 69, of Cisco, passed away Wednesday, February 27, 2013 in Abilene due to a stroke caused by treatments from recently discovered lung cancer. Services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Eastland. Burial will follow in the Eastland City Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral home Friday, 5~7:00 p.m.
Mr. Ables was born on August 12, 1943 in Gorman to Harmon Columbus and Inze (Culland) Ables. He graduated from Cisco Jr. College with an Associate's degree. He was an SH3 in the U.S. Navy. He married Shirley Smith on August 6, 1966 in Eastland. He worked for Sun Oil Company and Koch Oil Company.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Elmer, Gerald and Gaylon Ables; and sister-in-law, Betty Ables.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Jean Ables of Cisco; 2 daughters, Kalynn Lynch of Cisco and Paula Ables Rehm and Bill Rehm of Austin; 3 granddaughters, Phoebe & Kasandra Lynch of Cisco and Zoe Rehm of Austin; a grandson, Jett D Rehm of Austin; 2 step-granddaughters, Ariana & Trinity Rehm of Austin; brother, RD Ables of Elk City, OK; sister-in-law, Shirley Ann Ables of Eastland; 2 nieces, Debbie Cox of Eastland and Rhonda Herring of Elk City, OK; and a nephew, Russell Ables of Elk City, OK.
