Jerry C. Carter, 83, of Eastland left this world to be with family, friends, and his Lord and Savior on October 17, 2015 at Eastland Memorial Hospital. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 23rd at First Baptist Church Eastland, 405 S. Seaman, with Dr. Shawn Brewer officiating. A reception will follow in the Family Life Center of the church. Jerry was born October 30, 1931 in Loraine, Texas to Jesse and Grace Carter. He was a graduate of Ranger High School and Ranger College and served as a Communications Officer in the United States Navy. He married Jane Myrick on April 8, 1955 and they have spent 60 wonderful years together in Eastland. Jerry was a right-of-way agent for Lone Star Gas Company for 40 years. Jerry had a servant’s heart and displayed it in all he did. He was a Little League coach, Sunday School teacher, Rotary member, and delivered Meals on Wheels until just recently. Of course his favorite activity was greeting folks at the door every Sunday for 25 years at First Baptist Church. He loved hunting and fishing, bowling, and working on antique furniture. However, outside of his Lord and his family, his greatest passion was Eastland Mavette and Maverick athletics. Jerry is survived by his wife Jane of 60 years; a daughter, Jerianne Byrne of Oklahoma City; a son, Jon Carter of Eastland; 3 grandchildren, Justin Green of Dallas, Jackson and Caroline Carter of Frisco; and three siblings, Gay Williams of Odessa, Rod Carter of Weatherford, and Jan Bullard of Brownwood. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Meals on Wheels, PO Box 324, Eastland TX, 76448 or Solid Rock Camp, 599 County Road 570A, Eastland TX, 76448.
