Doug Mitchell left this life Wednesday October 14, 2015. Services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, October 19th at Lone Camp Baptist Church Lone Camp Texas and a visitation will be 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. Saturday October 17th at Edwards Funeral Home Strawn, Texas. Burial will be at New Hope Cemetery Lone camp, Texas.
Doug was born June 19, 1961 to Buck Mitchell and Wanda Stinson Mitchell at Vernon, Texas. He graduated from Gainesville High School and University of North Texas with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice Cum Laude. Doug was a retired Staff Sgt. U.S. Army National Guard, a member of Texas Municipal Police Association, and graduated from the FBI Academy at age 51. He served on the TMPA (Texas Municipal Police Association) board of directors 2005-2007, Served on the MADD advisory board 2005-2008, Alliance on Underage drinking 2005-2014, Denton County Advisory Board 2006-2011, Denton County Child Protective Services Board 2008-2011, Citizens for Traffic Safety of Greater Dallas 2005-2014. He attended Management Schools of Institute for Law Enforcement Administration Plano, Texas Police School of Supervision – 2000, Institute for Law Enforcement Administration Plano, Texas 46th Management College – 2010, Police Executive Research Forum Washington, D.C. Senior Management Institute for Police – 2011, Federal Bureau of Investigation Quantico, Virginia FBI National Academy – 2012, and had Certifications in Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Austin, Texas Master Peace Officer – 2001 and Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Austin, Texas Instructor – 2000. He also loved to hunt Dove and travel.
Survivors include his dad, Buck Mitchell; sons, Justin Mitchell and Jeff Coulter Mitchell; brother, John Kelly Mitchell and wife Robin, and sister, June Mitchell. Memorials may be made to MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Drivers).
