Dr. Jim Gray of Eastland went to be with our Lord, Friday October 11, 2013.
Jim entered this world September 7, 1919, born to Benjamin Franklin Gray and Mable Anthony Gray. The family lived south of Comanche, TX, on the Gray Ranch. After graduating from Comanche High School in 1938, he studied watch repair and owned a Jewelry store in downtown Stephenville. From 1941-1945, he served his country in the Army Air Corp as a Staff Sergeant on Guam during WWII. Jim returned to Comanche after the war and worked at the local jewelry store. It was there he met his sweetheart, Bette Thompson. They were married on June 13, 1948, in Fort Worth, TX. Jim earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at East Texas Teachers College in Commerce, TX, in 1950; proceeded to Baylor Dental School in Dallas, TX, and graduated in 1955. He established and owned dental practices in Quanah, TX, Irving, TX, Gorman, TX, and Cross Plains, TX.
Jim was a life member of the Texas Dental Association, American Dental Association, Dallas County Dental Association, and a charter member of Dallas Orthodontics Study Group. He was also a member of First Baptist Church of Quanah, Plymouth Park Baptist of Irving, First Baptist Church of Rising Star, First Baptist Church of Eastland, Baptist Campers on Mission and currently attended the First United Methodist Church of Ranger. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge for 7 years. Jim participated in a WWII Honor Flight to Washington DC in April of 2011.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers: Frank Gray of Gorman, Don Gray of Comanche; and sister: Jo Polnac of Ranger.
He is survived by his wife: Bette Gray of Eastland; his son: James Anthony Gray and wife Rebecca of Dallas; daughters: Jean Darnell and husband Ray of Eastland; Ruth Trittin and husband John of Hurst; grandson: Raleigh James Darnell of Eastland; Granddaughters: Kelly Darnell of Eastland; Rena Gray and Ella Gray of Dallas.
Visitation will be 5-7 PM Wednesday, October 16, 2013, at Edwards Funeral Chapel in Eastland, TX. Funeral Services will be held 2 PM Thursday, October 17, 2013, at Edwards Funeral Chapel in Eastland, TX. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Ranger.
