Jimmy Reid Everett went to be with the Lord on March 14, 2022, at 6:53 AM at his home in Eastland surrounded by loved ones. Visitation will be held at Edwards Funeral Home from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM on March 18, 2022 immediately followed by funeral services and burial at Staff Cemetery.
Born in Grosvernor, TX on July 17, 1930, and a native of Odessa he graduated from Odessa High School in 1948 where he then attended Odessa College before becoming a proud member of the U.S. Air Force from 1950-1954. Following his service, he worked for Cities Service Oil Company from 1954-1986 in Odessa and Grand Falls, TX when he retired to enjoy a relaxing life at Lake Leon.
His great joys in life included fishing, taking care of his yard, and playing with his grandkids and great grandchildren. Jimmy was blessed to be loved by two great women in his life. He married Ruth Carpenter in 1955 until her death in 1983. He later married Laverne Stafford in 1988 until he went to be with the Lord.
Jimmy is survived by his wife of 33 years, Laverne Everett of Eastland; daughter, Cecilia Rozas and husband Guy Rozas of San Marcos, TX; daughter Jolea Telotta and husband Jude Telotta of Round Rock, TX; son Steve Simmel and wife Dena Simmel of Eastland, TX; son Mike Simmel and wife Donna Simmel of Waxahachie, TX; brother, Donnie Everett of Odessa, TX; granddaughter Ruth Rozas and wife Bre Kumar of Katy, TX; granddaughter Kelly Harrell and husband Logan Harrell of Austin, TX; granddaughter Jenna Harris and husband Curtis Harris of Lipan, TX; granddaughter Jordan Sijansky and husband Kyle Sijansky of League City, TX; grandson Corey Simmel and wife Greta Simmel of San Antonio, TX; grandson Nicholas Simmel of Waxahachie, TX; grandson Reece Scitern of Lubbock, TX; granddaughter Laney Scitern of Eastland, TX; great-granddaughter Addie Harris of Lipan, TX; and great-grandson Brandtley Harris of Lipan, TX; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James C Everett and Lucy Alice Everett; wife, Ruth Carpenter; brother, Van Everett; sister, Louise Higghins; sister, Betty Kinney; and sister, Jolea Everett. Pallbearers will be Dale Baker, Jude Telotta, Mike Simmel, Steve Simmel, Corey Simmel, and Nicholas Simmel. The family would like to express thanks to Dr. William Simpson, Dr. Robert DeLuca, Encompass Home Health, Solaris Hospice, and family and friends that were there to offer their support during this difficult time.
The family wishes that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Staff Cemetery at 121 N Homer St. Ranger, TX 76470, where he spent countless hours maintaining the beauty of this old cemetery.
