John Ed Nevill of Eastland, TX returned to his heavenly home on Sunday, May 29, 2016 following complications with pneumonia. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace. A celebration of his life service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at First Baptist Church, Eastland, Texas. A graveside burial will follow. On Tuesday evening, May 31, 2016, there will be a viewing at Edward’s Funeral Home in Eastland.
John was born May 5, 1940 in San Angelo, TX to Thomas “Tom” Nevill and Mercedes “Dee” Trainer. He graduated from Sonora High School in 1958. From there he attended TCU in Ft. Worth, but after a couple of years he decided to join the United States Navy where he served on the submarine USS Simon Bolivar. During this time he married Nelda Hammett of Carlsbad, NM on March 13, 1962. They had 3 children. After 7 years of service to his country he was honorably discharged and decided to move his family to Eastland, TX where he managed the TV cable offices in Eastland, Cisco and Ranger for several years. Following that he continued working in cable TV and fiber optics. John was very active in his community. He was a member of the First Baptist Church where he had served as deacon, RA director, Sunday School teacher, and Awana’s listener. In later years he served on the community’s Economic Board. He mentored many young men over the years as well and became known to them as their encourager.
John is survived by his three children, April Coronado of McKinney, TX , Kellar Nevill and his wife, Deepika currently residing in Singapore, and Glenn Nevill and his wife, Carol of Southlake, TX; 7 grandchildren, Brielle, Brycen, Kiran, Zara, Rachel, Ashley and Jennifer; his brother Bob Nevill of Austin, TX, his brother-in-law, Don Hammett of Carlsbad, NM and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dee Nevill in 1999, Tom Nevill in 2005, his wife, Nelda, also in 2005 and son-in-law, Edwin Coronado in 2013.
