Joyce “Joy” Marie Adams, 71, passed away peacefully at her home in Madill, OK on September 23, 2016. She was born on July 13, 1945 in Vallejo, CA to Carl “Mac” & Jean Naomi McDaniel. Joy grew up in Dallas, TX. She graduated from W.W. Samuel High School, Dallas, TX in 1963. After high school, Joy attended University of North Texas where she received her Bachelors in Education. She later went on to receive her Master’s in Education at University of North Texas. She switched careers and began working with senior citizens where she received her certificate of gerontology.
Joy began work as a teacher in the public school systems, and later did private tutoring in her home. Later, she switched careers and began working with senior citizens. During that time, she had been a member of AAUW and was active in her church.
Joy married Clint in 1965. They were happily married for over 51 years. Joy had many hobbies that she enjoyed. She liked reading, crafts, collecting, buying antiques and writing.
Joy was preceded in death by her father, Carl McDaniel, and her youngest daughter, Shanna Thornhill. She was survived by her mother, Jean McDaniel, her sister, Gay McDaniel, her husband, Clinton Adams, her oldest daughter, Heather Simon, granddaughter, Ashlea Collins, grandson, Coleman Thornhill, grandson, Kane Simon, grandson, Tripp Simon. Joy had 9 nieces and 6 nephews.
The family will be greeting friends & family during the visitation at Edwards Funeral Home in Eastland, TX on Wednesday from 11am-1pm with services beginning at 1pm. Burial will follow at Bullock Cemetery in Ranger, TX immediately after.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be sent to Cross Timbers Hospice at 207 C Street, Ardmore, OK 73401.
The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the Dickson Fire Dept. for always being on alert, and to thank the incredible, caring staff at Cross Timbers Hospice, each one of the thoughtful neighbors who all helped out in any way they could to help make it easier on my dad during her extensive stay in the hospitals. And finally, a very special thank you to Mrs. Theresa Shreck who showed an enormous amount of patience & grace while helping with some of the more unpleasant tasks at home.
