Judy Ellis Hunt, 75, of Gordon, Texas, passed away surrounded by family on July 20, 2023 after an illness.
Judy was born on August 30, 1947, to Wyndle and Nelda Court Ellis in Gorman, Texas. Her family moved to Shreveport, LA when she was about 4 years old, and she lived there until completing high school. After Judy graduated from C.E. Byrd High School in 1965, she went on to study at Tarleton in Stephenville.
While attending Tarleton, she met Jimmy Hunt of Strawn, and the two were married September 9, 1967 in Waco. They made their first home in San Marcos while Jimmy attended Southwest Texas State.
After Jimmy graduated from college, the couple relocated to Strawn where they lived in a neighborhood with many of Jimmy’s relatives. While in Strawn, they had their son Shanon, and daughter Shelly.
Judy worked for K.C Fuel in Gordon until Shanon was born, at which time she stayed home to be a full-time mother.
The family moved to Gordon in September of 1982, and Judy began working at Gordon I.S.D. in 1984, eventually becoming the business manager there. She would work at the school for over 30 years.
Judy was a gifted artist and taught art at different times in her life. Her work has been featured in numerous art shows over the years. She was also an avid movie fan and organized movie discussion groups in the early days of the internet. She had a soft spot for cats, tame and feral alike. Judy loved to vacation with her family and became a world traveler later in life, with her favorite trips being to Italy.
Above all, Judy was an extremely kind, loving, and supportive wife, as well as mother and friend to all. Her trust in the Lord and her relentless hope, optimism, wit, humor, toughness, and courage, especially through her many health battles, set an example to aspire to for everyone around her.
Judy was predeceased by her parents. She will be greatly missed by her husband Jimmy, her son Shanon and his wife Daphne of Stephenville, her daughter Shelly and her husband Eric of Austin, her cherished grandchildren Ava and Riley, her sister Jana and her husband Todd of Grapevine, and her extended family and friends.
A visitation with the family will be held Sunday, July 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Edwards Funeral Home in Strawn. Services will be held on Monday, July 24 at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Gordon with pastors Roger Keck and Albert Oliveira officiating. A graveside will follow at the Old Gordon Cemetery.
