Kenneth Robert Watson Sr

EASTLAND – Kenneth Robert Watson, Sr. 74 of Eastland, TX went home to be with the Lord, Monday, October 28, 2013, after battling cancer. Services will be Thursday, October 31, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Eastland under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home with burial at the Eastland City Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 – 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Kenneth was born February 22, 1939 in Gorman, TX to Robert Honoll and Verna Bond Watson. He was a graduate of Gorman High School. Upon graduation, he attended Arlington State College (now The University of Texas at Arlington) where he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering Technology. On November 14, 1959, he married Mary Francis Butler in Carbon and moved to Eastland in 1960 where he raised his family.
Kenneth had many accomplishments in his life. He had a distinguished 35 year career with Texas Electric Service Company where he retired as Superintendent of the Eastland Service Center. After retiring from Texas Electric, he continued to work as an engineering consultant teaching electrical math classes and later inspecting at various wind farm construction projects. He owned and operated the Maverick Car Wash since 1980 and was a member of the Eastland Chamber of Commerce.
Kenneth was a member of the First Baptist Church in Eastland and a previous member of Bethel Baptist where he taught Sunday School. While his children were growing up, he was a founding member of the Eastland Civic Theater, an assistant Scout Master for Boy Scouts Troop 6, having himself earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Kenneth also coached Little League baseball for a number of years and was a licensed pilot. Over the years he volunteered his time and services by working many political elections, serving as a delegate for two state Republican conventions, and delivering meals for Meals on Wheels.
Kenneth is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Watson, two sons; Kenneth Watson, Jr. of Arlington and Kerry Watson and wife Lisa of Carlsbad, NM, one daughter, Kathryn Peck and husband David of Mansfield, one brother, Richard Watson and wife Connie of Gorman. Kenneth is also survived by ten Grandchildren; Deidre Watson, Andrea Watson, Joshua Watson, Leslie Collins, Christopher Collins, Melissa Agee, Timothy Collins, Emily Peck, Hannah Peck and Sarah Peck , and one Great-Grandchild, Jocelyn Collins.
Memorials may be sent to the First Baptist Church of Eastland, or the Arlington Memorial Hospital Hospice Unit in Arlington, TX.
