Lawrence Douglas Cook, 79, of Palo Pinto, Texas went home to be with the Lord on May 20, 2014 in Fort Worth, Texas. He was a great man who was admired, respected, and loved by all who knew him. He was outgoing, talkative, funny, strong, and a man whose character and integrity were beyond reproach. His significance in the lives of his loved ones will live on forever in their hearts.
He was born on April 8, 1935 to C. Foster and Docia Vencel Cook at Peacock, TX. He was raised in Spur, Texas, where he enjoyed sports and getting watermelon from the watermelon truck! He was a member of a championship basketball team.
After he graduated from Spur High School, he attended college at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX and the University of North Texas in Denton, where he received his Bachelors Degree and then a Master's Degree in Education Administration.
Lawrence worked as a teacher and coach at Post ISD, Wilson ISD, Amherst ISD, and Carter-Riverside High School in the Fort Worth ISD, where he touched many lives. Many of his former players continued to have get togethers with him long after he left. He transitioned to the business world and retired from General Dynamics as the Chief of Spares Estimating Department.
On April 19, 1985 he and Judith Hartzell were married and enjoyed 29 years of beautiful marriage. Lawrence and Judith later built their dream home on Lake Palo Pinto.
Along with his wife, Larry was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Gordon, Texas. He was a pilot and loved to fly. He was a member of the EAA Chapter 956 of Eastland, Tx and the Lake Palo Pinto water board. He loved to be out on the lake, and was an avid NBA basketball fan.
Lawrence is survived by his loving wife Judith, and his three children, Todd Cook, Lisa Cook, and Traci Logue. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Tanner, Paige, Jason, Keven, Brandon, and Bailee. Lawrence was proceeded in death by his parents and his brother, Charles.
The body will lie in state at Edwards Funeral Home in Strawn Texas on Thursday, May 22 and Friday, May 23.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at 11:00 am at the First United Methodist Church of Gordon with Rev. Starr Bowen officiating.
Burial will take place at Mount Marion Cemetery.
