It’s never easy to say goodbye but nothing is forever. On November 15, 2017, we said goodbye to one of the greatest ladies I have ever known. I was honored to call her Granny. Some called her Evelyn and some called her Mom. Anyone that was privileged enough to know her called her special. Family and friends will go on because as Granny said when her husband, my Teti, passed away “you just have to”. We will go on, and she will be a part of us in everything we do, every day. She will be in the beautiful flower we stop to smell. She will be in the magnificent sunrise or sunset we stop to look at. She will be the sparkle in the pretty rock that catches our eye. She will be in the kind gestures and love that we give one another. So as we take this time to remember and share our amazing memories of this extraordinary lady, we will not let our heavy hearts and tear filled eyes hide all the happy moments that she gave us through the years.
Lelya Evelyn (Slayden) Miller was born to Joseph and Nellie Slayden on March 23, 1927. Evelyn grew up with her siblings Patricia, Joe Bob, and Daniel. She was married to Nathaniel A. Miller when she was 18 years old. All of which proceeded her in death. I remember her saying she was going to outlive everyone once, and I believe she did just that.
