Lila Woolf Caraway, 96, passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2015. Her services are a visitation, Saturday, November 7, 2 to 5 PM. Lila was born October 27, 1919 to Jeff D. and Emily Mahaza Woolf in Trinidad, Tx. She graduated as Valedictorian of her high school class in 1936. On November 22, 1939 she married R. J. “Buck” Caraway and moved to Strawn. She became a member of the First United Methodist Church of Strawn where she participated in numerous activities including teaching Sunday school for many years. Lila was well known for her outstanding cooking skills and being an excellent home engineer. In 1941 Lila and Buck purchased the Texaco wholesale dealership, which they owned until 1980. Lila was an equal partner in the ownership and management of the business. She and Buck were well matched in their skills as well as being competitive with each other. After retirement, Lila and Buck enjoyed traveling in their Airstream trailer to the western US and Canada. Lila considered these trips one of the greatest highlights of their lives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, R. J. “Buck” Caraway; brothers, Dr. Jack R. Woolf and Thomas J. Woolf. Survivors are daughters; Patricia C. Nowak and Jeanine Caraway; Granddaughter, Emily Nowak; and five beloved nephews and their families.
