Lyndell Ray Garrett, 75 of Throckmorton, went home to his Lord and Savior Thursday, March 7, 2019. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Eastland. Burial will follow in the Nimrod Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Edwards Funeral Home Sunday, 2~4 p.m.
Lyndell was born on November 16, 1943 in Gorman, TX to Alton Kenneth Garrett and Mabel Sue (Oglesby) Garrett. He attended Eastland High School and later Grand Canyon University. He was a heavy equipment operator for 25 years for Phelps Dodge Copper Mine in Morenci, AZ retiring as Supervisor. He then worked for Bob Carroll Construction in Eastland for many years, and later Brandon’s Dozer Company. He married Marie McDonald on February 14, 2012 in Eastland. He was a proud member of NRA and was Vice President of the Eastland County Gun Club. He had been a member, and deacon, of many Baptist Churches in Arizona and Texas and was a registered preacher.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Billy Jack Johnson; daughter, Tammy Rene᷄ Hoopes; and life-long friend, Clinton Kellar.
Survivors include his wife, Marie; sons, Michael Mayfield, and Lt. Col. James Atchley and wife Lea, and Dr. Wayne Atchley and wife Stephanie; daughters, Shelly Sorenson, Lisa Garrett, and Phillis Bunch and husband Shane; brother, Glen Garrett and wife Sue; aunt, Ernestine Pierce; 22 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; mother-in-law, Lois McDonald; and numerous nieces and nephews.
