Marcia Nell Gliddon

July 18, 1934 — January 13, 2021

It’s impossible to condense the impact of a life into a few printed inches, especially for a person loved by many and who went with what life dealt. Marcia Nell Hodges Gliddon fully embraced life all of her 86 1/2 years, regardless of challenge, location or blessing. A huge loss was felt Jan-uary 13 in Fort Worth when she left this life and joined her God, her husband Charles “Buddy” Gliddon, son Tom Gliddon, parents Marie and Ernest Hodges, and brother William “Buddy” Hodges in Heaven. Left to live up to her example are daughter Cheryl Chrisman (David), grand-sons Wesley and Kirkland Gliddon, two great grandsons, sister Fredda Witters, brother Ret. Ma-jor Gen. Bobby Hodges, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Born in Stonewall TX July 18, 1934, Nell excelled as a student, wife, mother, grandmother, Christian, homemaker, teacher, and teacher aide. Her greatest joys included time with her family (especially her grandsons), working in her 5-acre garden, canning and preserving foods she grew and harvested, and many family and mission camping trips from Mexico to Canada. An excep-tional organizer and worker, Nell delighted in hosting monthly parties for The Lighthouse for the Blind in Waco, leading Blue Bird and Camp Fire Girls troupes in Bishop TX, teaching Vacation Bible School and Sunday School in Bishop and Waco TX, and singing in her church choirs throughout her life.

Although a tender lady, she had a stubborn streak that served her well. After a series of strokes and a bleak prognosis in 1999-2001, she discovered an artistic talent and rekindled a dormant athletic bent. She became a prolific painter, daily walker, swimmer and exercise bike queen. She simply found joy regardless of her circumstance.

Graveside service will be Monday, Jan. 18 at the New Gordon Cemetery, Gordon TX at 2:00 p.m. Family will greet friends during a casual gathering at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, Gordon TX following her burial. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Nell Gliddon’s name may be sent to the Colonial Gardens Employee Fund, c/o Amanda Sharp, 6931 River Park Circle, Fort Worth TX 76116 or Elara Caring Hospice, 827 N. Main Street, Cleburne TX 76033.

Her family is forever grateful to the Colonial Gardens Memory Care staff who cared for her dai-ly, especially during these Covid times, and for Meagan and Adam, two extraordinary Hospice nurses.
