Marcus S. O'Dell

Marcus Stanton O’Dell, age 97 years young, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, April 12, 2017 in Rockport, TX. Services for Marcus will be Monday, April 17 at 10am at the Bethel Baptist Church in Eastland under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home. Visitation will be Sunday, April 16 from 3 – 5pm at the funeral home located at 411 S Mulberry St., Eastland, TX 76448. Burial will follow at the Eastland City Cemetery.
Marcus Stanton O’Dell was born October 4, 1919 in Comanche County, TX to William David and Elizabeth Cox O’Dell. He was a graduate of Comanche High School. After graduation, Marcus joined the US Air Force in December 1942 and served during WWII. He married his first wife Ruth Kinsey O’Dell in1939 and she preceded him in death 1989. He was also preceded in death by one son, David O’Dell. He then married Lora McCullough, August 31, 1998 and she preceded him in death 2016. Marcus was also preceded in by two brothers and one sister.
Marcus worked for the US Postal service and served as the Eastland Postmaster for 17 years. He was appointed post master 1968. He was a faithful and valued member of the Eastland Lions Club for 60 years. Marcus also served as a Deacon at Bethel Baptist Church and also taught Sunday school.
Marcus was a loving honest Christian man who put his family first His family can tell you he would always say “Work for it, Wait for it, Pay for it.” Marcus loved Eastland and it was his home for 70 years. Marcus loved his church. He loved his church family. He loved his family, friends and most of all he loved the Lord.
He is survived by his son, Mike O’Dell and wife Shelly of Aransas Pass, Jan Thomas of Eastland, Grandsons; Michael O’Dell and wife Cari of San Antonio, and Ricky O’Dell of Brownwood, Great-granddaughter; Shelbi O’Dell and Great-grandson; Marcus O’Dell of San Antonio, Nephews; Gayle O’Dell of Carrolton, and Woody O’Dell of Comanche.
