Martin Powledge

January 2, 1946 — March 14, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Martin Denny "Dean" Powledge, who left us peacefully on March 14, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on January 2, 1946, in Eldorado, Arkansas to Edgar and Iris (Crumpler) Powledge, Dean and his family moved to Snyder, Texas at the age of two where he became a beloved member of the community and a devoted parishioner at Trinity Methodist Church.

Dean proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy, enlisting on August 13, 1964. Over his remarkable 26-year career, he experienced many pivotal moments, including serving on the USS Liberty during the tragic bombing on June 8, 1967. He later took on the important role of recruiter for the U.S. Navy, sharing his passion for service with others.

After retiring from the Navy, Dean found a new passion in the oil industry, working as a field superintendent for Pendragon Oil Company. He cherished his work and the relationships he built along the way. Dean was also a devoted family man who loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

An avid sports fan, he kept a close eye on the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers, often sharing his excitement for game days with family and friends.

Friends and loved ones are invited to pay their respects at a public viewing that will take place at Edwards Funeral Home in Eastland on March 19, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Following that, a graveside service will be held at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene at 2:00 PM the same day, where we will honor Martin's legacy and his service to our country.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Powledge of Cisco; three sons, Martin C. Powledge of Plano, Texas, Roy C. Powledge of Breckenridge, Texas, and Jackie Powledge and wife Debra of Grandview, Texas; three grandchildren, Martin Lane Powledge, Paige Frady, and Rendon Powledge; a great-grandchild, Pruett Frady; numerous nieces.
